Growing the Game.
Building Community. Developing Players.
From record-setting youth participation to expanding girls’ hockey and competitive pathways, Monument continues to build a hockey community where every player has the opportunity to grow.
The Tradition Continues in Monument
What began more than 20 years ago as a single Tier-1 Midget team has evolved into the Colorado Rampage, a model hockey organization recognized for growing the game, developing players, and creating pathways for advancement.
Building on that legacy, the recreational program rebranded as the Monument Rebels in 2025 to better reflect its geographic footprint. In 2024, the organization also introduced its girls’ hockey program, SOCO, expanding opportunities for female players throughout Southern Colorado.
Today, Monument hockey continues to thrive through a player-centered philosophy, a strong community foundation, and a commitment to continuous growth and improvement.
“The state of hockey for the Monument Rebels and SOCO is strong and strengthening daily.”
— Shaun Hathaway, PresidentLeading the Way in Growing the Game
The Monument Rebels continue to set the standard for introducing young players to hockey. With one of the most organized and well-run Learn to Play and 8U programs in the country, Monument was once again recognized by USA Hockey as a national leader to start the 2026–27 season.
On October 3, for the second consecutive year, the Monument Rebels led the nation in registration for USA Hockey’s Try Hockey for Free event, welcoming 137 participants.
This milestone reflects the organization’s commitment to creating opportunities for every child to discover and enjoy hockey. Through a safe, fun, and supportive environment, young players develop skills, build confidence, and—most importantly—learn to love the game.
“The organization prioritizes player development and focuses on growth rather than numbers.”
— Amber Lundy, ParentOpportunities for Every Player: Monument Rebels
The Monument Rebels’ recreational and travel programs launched their seasons in August and early September, beginning with structured, transparent tryouts designed to give every player an opportunity to grow, develop, and succeed.
For the 2026–27 season, the Rebels rostered:
- 14U: Two teams (A/B)
- 12U: Three teams (AA/A/B)
- 10U: Four teams (AA/A/A/B)
All nine teams are scheduled to compete in the Rocky Mountain Hockey Federation (RMHF).
In September, 10U, 12U, and 14U recreational house players were evaluated and placed on Rebels Select teams to compete in the Colorado Recreational Hockey League (CRHL).
The organization’s commitment to accessible hockey continues through the Rebels In-House League, which is once again underway at the 10U, 12U, and 14U age levels. With organized programming and opportunities to compete at different levels, players can continue developing their skills while building confidence, friendships, and a lasting connection to the game.
“As parents, we hope to find opportunities that help our children grow, build confidence, develop character, and discover something they love. For our family, the Monument Rebels have provided all of that and so much more.”
— The Chaffee FamilySOCO Girls Hockey: Expanding Opportunities
SOCO continues to attract new players and expand girls’ hockey opportunities throughout Southern Colorado.
For the 2026–27 season, SOCO features:
- 10U: Two teams competing in the RMHF
- 12U: Two teams—one competing in the RMHF and one developmental tournament team
- 14U: A Tier-2 National Tournament Bound (NTB) team registered with USA Hockey
- 16U: A newly formed team competing in the RMHF
The 14U team’s National Tournament Bound designation marks an important milestone for SOCO, opening the door to regional and national competition. With postseason playoff success, the team has an opportunity to advance to the 2027 USA Hockey National Championships in April.
The addition of the 16U team further expands the pathway for girls to continue playing, developing, and competing as they grow within the sport.
Beyond the teams and competition, SOCO strengthens the broader Monument hockey community by building connections, encouraging personal growth, and creating a welcoming environment for players and families alike.
“It’s more than just a group of kids playing hockey—we have truly become a family.”
— Alison Aquila, ParentThe Coaches Who Make It Possible
At the heart of both the Monument Rebels and SOCO are the volunteer coaches who dedicate their time, energy, and passion to developing the next generation of hockey players.
The word coach has historical roots in the idea of a vehicle that carries someone from one place to another. In hockey, that meaning is especially fitting: coaches help players move from where they are today toward what they can become tomorrow.
Their impact extends far beyond practices and games. They teach accountability, encourage teamwork, build meaningful relationships, and help players develop the skills and confidence appropriate for each stage of their journey.
Through the commitment of these volunteers, the Rebels and SOCO deliver more than a hockey experience. They create opportunities for personal growth, lasting friendships, and a strong sense of belonging.
“Through the Rebels, we've built lifelong friendships with other families, shared countless experiences, and become part of a community that feels like family.”
— Scott Chaffee, ParentMore Than Hockey. A Community for Life.
From introducing first-time skaters to the game to creating competitive opportunities for advancing players, the Monument Rebels and SOCO share a common purpose: to grow hockey, develop well-rounded players, and strengthen the community.
The legacy of the Colorado Rampage continues through programs that put players first, welcome new families, and create opportunities for everyone to be part of the game.
The future of hockey in Monument is growing—and the best is yet to come.
